General Zahn has captured the Princess and is holding her prisoner deep inside his base behind an elaborate network of force fields. To vex any would-be rescuers, General Zahn has a diverse collection of thugs in his employee as well as a number of former Imperial troops who turned mercenary after the destruction of the second Death Star.
Who is General Zahn? General Zahn is just a former pirate with delusions of grandeur. He calls himself a general because he likes the sound of it but he has never served in any military. His petty ambitions had mostly to do with accumulating personal power and wealth but that has changed. He now has a plan to conquer the galaxy.
Zahn has absolutely no connection to the Force so he especially hates and fears the Jedi. He has driven his team of scientists to perform many bizzare experiments, not the least dreadful of which was the making of Undead Zombie distillate. His theory was that if he drank it, he might obtain some Dark Force powers. It tasted like... well, you don't want to know... and fortunately it didn't work.
He often gloats over the collection of creatures in his private zoo. He raises his own Mailocs and Vrornsks there. He would like to raise Rancors too, but he only has the one right now. His scientists were even able to figure out how to make a special containment field so he could keep a few Undead Zombies around. (They don't breed, of course - already dead)
Zahn has assembled a brilliant team of scientists. Some of them were captured and enslaved during pirate raids but most of them are fugitives from legitimate societies. Among them are wanted criminals guilty of performing cruel experiments on innocent subjects. There are also those who fled their home systems when their reckless experimentation with prototype weapons systems wreaked havoc. They try to be especially clever with Force Fields.
The nature of General Zahn's base has been a source of confusion and quite a mystery until recently. It is now known that a huge freighter, the Rosinante, which plied the shipping lanes long ago, was attacked by pirates and driven into an asteroid field. When the great ship finally came to misfortune in the field, much of it was destroyed, but a significant portion remained intact, partially embedded in a gigantic asteroid. Zahn's grandfather was a crewman in the pirate force that hounded the Rosinante to it's ruin.
Who is the Princess? It's certainly not Princess Leia. Her name is Princess JulisAn. She was captured by Zahn's forces during a pirate raid on a Republic passenger ship. Her family is from the small, neutral star system of Freedma, which now exports its extremely advanced weapons technology only to New Republic planets.
Zahn hopes to force her family to pay for her release with a secret weapon design that the Freedmans abandoned long ago because it was considered far too powerful and dangerous. Rumors abound regarding the nature of the weapon, but it is believed to be even more powerful than a Death Star. It is feared that if he succeeds in obtaining this secret weapon design, General Zahn will become a gravely dangerous threat to the New Republic... even more dangerous than the Empire.
