Patriotic Hacking?

The Bush administration's computer security adviser, Richard Clarke, said hackers "have an obligation to find the vulnerabilities" in software systems - and to work with software makers to patch them up. But not everyone agrees hacking can be helpful; the FBI recently passed up an opportunity to use a hijacked al Qaeda site for disinformation purposes.
